ERROR 14-92 is an artistic approach to historical speculation that combines on site interviews and artificial intelligence to investigate: how would the world be today if Christopher Colombus had arrived to India and not to the indies of America in 1492. ERROR 14-92 proposes to investigate and reinterpret historical events of the past to propose bifurcations and spin new narratives about the present and the future.

After leaving the Port of Palos and crossing the Atlantic for two months and nine days, Columbus arrived to the island of Guanahani – believing that he had reached India. The hegemonic narrative of colonial history describes the beginning of this period as a kind of navigational error, a confusion between the Peninsula of Hindustan or India and Abya Ayala or America. This mistake between east and west, categories that govern our world view of today, was therefore a confusion of expectations and preconceptions that has drastically marked was is understood as universal history. The confusion lasted until 1507, when fifteen years later, Américo Vespucio announced that the territory of Las Indias was actually a new continent.

The fact that the colonization of Abya Ayala arose from an error does not make it any less wrong, but it does invite us to ask ourselves about alternative results with which we can imagine presents and futures.

Through 20 interviews that were conducted in diverse cities and town of northern and southern India, we researched elements of pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial History. We reviewed different colonization tactics between the arrival of Columbus in America in 1492 and 1947, the year of the Independence of India from the British Raj. Additionally, will analyzed some of the resistance techniques by the territories and subjugated communities; for example, the fact that India was able to retain twenty-two pre-colonial languages ​​co-officially, despite the imposition of English.

Through the investigation we speculated  on alternative narratives and non hegemonic stories that brought together the imaginations of various contexts which were eventually illustrated through the Artificial intelligence application DALL-E.

ERROR 14-92 is based on the idea of ​​history as palimpsest, a succession of various overlapping writings that account for the plural character of the realities that we live.
