1m² of the Independence Park

1m² of the Independence Park Performance and Installation Bogota, 2018

In Colombia, the process of independence was carried out between 1810 and 1819 to free the territories that were owned by the Viceroyalty of New Granada. In 1910, one hundred years after independence, the Independence Park was inaugurated, as a symbol of the liberation of territories.

In the action 1m² of the Independence Park, I claim my portion of public space by taking property of a square meter of the Independence Park. When reflecting on the management of public territories in Colombia, where within a Neofeudalist context, a minority of landowners dominate the spheres of power. The usurpation of public goods is a naturalized practice that morally allows me, as an artist, to privatize 1m² of public space and thus be able to have my own piece of land.
