Tamed Sirens of the Rhine is a refection on the Rhine River, the main commercial waterway in Europe. Flowing through
Switzerland, Germany, France, and the Netherlands, the Rhine has been straightened, its once-meandering course transformed into a liquid highway that accelerates trade and reinforces the perception of the river as a resource in service of capital.

The piece consists of collected samples from the Rhine across several cities, Basel, Baden, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Strasbourg,
Koblenz, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Arnhem, and Rotterdam. Each container holds water and sediment (stones, sand, shells),
capturing the river’s shifting tonalities, textures, and material character along its path.

Alongside these samples, labels from local bottled waters, printed in risography, engage in a dialogue with this
transformation. Much like the river’s redirected fow, bottled water refects an effort to encapsulate, package, and
commercialize a natural element. This work explores these transitions: from free fow to controlled
channel, from ecological connection to market value, from river as relational tissue to river as fuvial capital.
